SHILLONG: The Garo Students’ Union (Khasi Hills Zone) has appealed to the abductors of Dinarsing Syiemlieh to release him unconditionally on humanitarian grounds.
The GSU also pointed out that the abduction has hurt the relationship between the Khasis and the Garos.
In a release issued here GSU leader Saljeng G.Momin said, “We urge all the Garo militant organizations in the state to come forward and embrace peace and join the mainstream.”
Syiemlieh, a 69-year-old coal trader was abducted on December 3. Following his abduction, several organizations have called for his release.
It may be mentioned that the KSU’s South West Khasi Hills District unit had set a 48-hour deadline for the suspected rebels to release coal dealer Syiemlieh during a public meeting organised by the union on December 10.
