SHILLONG: Retired KHADC judge J. Reenbohn was on Monday unanimously nominated as member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council vide a resolution passed unanimously during the special session of the Council here.
Members of the House lauded the decision taken by KHADC CEM P.N. Syiem to elect a person from a non-political background who will serve the interests of the Council in  a non partisan manner.
The name of the nominated MDC will now be forwarded to the Governor for his seal of approval.
Speaking to reporters after the special session, the KHADC chief said, “It was after a long exercise that we finalized the name and we are glad the House has unanimously agreed as he is a man with vast experience in the field of law.”
“The MDCs have shown their support putting aside party differences and maintaining a clear stand for the interest of the indigenous people,” he added.
When reminded of the MPCC president’s direction to follow the constitution of the Congress party and make the recommendation after due consultation with the State government, Syiem said, “I have to go with the spirit of coalition and follow recommendation under the coalition government.”
Reenbohn had earlier functioned as Court Officer, Shillong Bench of the Gauhati High Court, Law Officer, Government of Meghalaya and Secretary of the State Law Commission.
From 1984 to 1988, he served as Magistrate of the KHADC. Later, he functioned as Additional Court Judge from 1988-2005 after which he functioned as Judge till 2011.
