SHILLONG: Grieving family members of late havildar Khomraj Bhattarai have demanded action against the culprits who eliminated the cop in a cold blooded murder last month.
Speaking to media persons after a guard of honour for the deceased cop, a relative identified as C. Joshi said whoever killed Khomraj Bhattarai should be brought to justice even as he ruled out the question of forgiving the killers.
On the other hand, B. Joshi, himself a policeman and relative of the deceased said it was the duty of every cop to fight for the country. “When we have to fight we have to sacrifice our life and even have to kill,” he stated.
He further mentioned that the bereaved family has received necessary support from the State government and the Police department.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya IGP G.H.P. Raju said police have identified the killers and it was just a matter of time before the perpetrators are brought to justice.
“We are fully prepared to neutralize GNLA. The district police chiefs in Garo Hills are especially determined to neutralize the outfit,” he said, adding that Meghalaya Police will never be demoralized with such incidents.
Reacting to a query about the ex gratia, he informed that the family will be taken care of by the government and ex gratia of Rs.7.5 lakh will be provided very soon to the family.
He also assured that the process of paying family pension will be expedited.
Earlier, Meghalaya DGP Rajiv Mehta and senior police officials paid tributes to the martyred cop during the guard of honour held at the Police Reserve here.
