126 held, fined for drinking in public places

SHILLONG: During the months of October and November as many as 126 persons were picked up by Shillong Police for drinking in public places and creating nuisance.
They were arrested and forwarded to Court and a fine of Rs. 3,53,000 was realized  from the violators.
Maximum number of detection was done by personnel from the Sadar police station and with the Christmas and New Year round the corner the District Police has decided to step up its vigil.
Jail term for a month
In another case of creating nuisance at BaraPathar on December 13, three persons– Tilak Chettri (35), Bishnu Kumar Dorjee (27) and  Raj Biswa (30) were picked up by policemen from Jhalupara Outpost .
Later Chettri was sentenced to one month simple imprisonment by the Court.
