SHILLONG: In order to ensure that the approaching festivities pass off peacefully, the Shillong Police has started its drive against illicit liquor and the same is expected to be further intensified in the days to come.
This was informed here on Saturday by East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang.
It may be mentioned that the Shillong Police had during the last New Year launched a massive drive against sale of illicit liquor in the city leading to seizure of thousands of bottles of liquor and scores of arrests.
“This year too we will launch a massive drive against illicit liquor,” he said.
Reacting to a query Kharkrang said that elaborate security arrangements will be made in the city during Christmas and New Year.
“We don’t want to disturb the festive mood of the people but they too should not indulge in any illegal activity,” Kharkrang added.
