Driver taken to Assam, murdered

JOWAI: On the pretext of hiring a tourist taxi from Jowai, unknown miscreants kidnapped and later murdered the driver before disappearing with the vehicle.
On Saturday last, three unidentified persons hired the tourist taxi ML04C 1062 (Alto 800) driven by one Sorki Bang of Mustem village (West Jaintia Hills) from Stand War, Jowai.
The vehicle owner, Ricky Challam of Iongpiah, Jowai lodged a complaint that on Sunday his vehicle was hired by three people at around 2:00 pm. Incidentally, the body of the driver was also recovered from Kalain in Assam the same day and the vehicle was seized at Patharkandi in Karimganj district of Assam along with one Emi Nongpluh. Patharkandi Police arrested Nongpluh and seized the vehicle based on the complaint of the officials of the State Bank of India (SBI) as the bank loan for the vehicle was yet to be cleared.
Sources informed that a Police party from Jowai will reach Kalain police outpost on Tuesday to investigate into the matter.
