Minors raped in State
SHILLONG: Rape of minors continues unabated in Meghalaya, with no efforts being made to end the menace.
A woman Warmon Khyriem recently lodged a police complaint that between November 3 and 7 this year one Kyrshan Langstieh allegedly raped an eight-year-old girl at Lawshlem in East Khasi Hills and also threatened the minor with dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone.
In another case in the city, a woman identified as Sita Paudel lodged a police complaint that on December 17 at about 7.45 PM, one Bharat allegedly assaulted and also outraged the modesty of a 17-year-old girl at Motinagar.
Coal-laden trucks seized
SHILLONG: Police recently detected and seized two coal-laden trucks in different parts of the State.
On December 17, police detected and seized one coal-laden truck (ML-05J-5418) driven by Starborning Lyngkhoi at 25th Mile in South West Khasi Hills for violation of the NGT order.
A day earlier, police detected one capsized coal-laden truck driven by Deril Paslein at Kuliang in East Jaintia Hills. The truck was transporting coal in violation of the NGT order.
Condolence meet
SHILLONG: The District Council Courts, members of the Jaintia Hills District Bar Association and the District and Sessions Court, Jowai, in a meeting held on Monday have condoled the death of senior advocate Dr. O.D.V. Ladia.
Various speakers highlighted the contributions of (L) Dr. Ladia to the members of the bench and the bar. The members also expressed the great loss to members of the legal fraternity and the society at large.
The meetings also sent a condolence message to the bereaved family.
As a mark of respect, the meeting observed one-minute silence and also decided to stop all activities of the courts for the day to enable all members of the bench and the bar to attend his funeral.
Audition for dance competition
SHILLONG: The All Meghalaya Dancers’ Association has collaborated with India’s Got Talent aired on Colours TV Channel, and has called upon talented dancers to meet members of the Association or send their video clips to [email protected]. The audition will be held in January 2016 at Guwahati.
The Association aims to spot dancing talents from the State and help them to participate at the national level.
