Festive spirit lingers after Christmas

SHILLONG: Festive spirit lingers in Meghalaya, a day after Christmas was celebrated.
On Friday, the Christians all over the state celebrated Christmas with religious fervour.
Besides the celebration of midnight masses in the churches on the eve of Christmas across the state, there were special church services on December 25.
Garo Hills which witnessed a series of violent incidents due to the spurt in militancy, celebrated Christmas peacefully. Feasts were organized in Churches and homes even as people exchanged the greetings of the season.
Churches and homes were illuminated with decorative lights and Christmas stars during the festival both in   Khasi Hills and Garo Hills.
The Christmas messages highlighted the need to maintain peace and brotherhood among all sections of people in the state.
The faithful, who attended church services in Garo Hills prayed for lasting peace in Garo Hills, the region ravaged by the scourge of militancy.
The families who lost their dear and near ones due to violent incidents in the state remembered the departed souls, while the former took part in church services during Christmas.
As the state government offices remained closed since December 23, only to be opened on January 4, it will be a long celebration of the festive season for the government staff unlike others.
