SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has condoled the death of veteran Congress leader Friday Lyngdoh.
According to MPCC, late Lyngdoh was like a guide and father figure to many, whose lives he had touched.
Under the chairmanship of MPCC President D.D. Lapang, the office bearers of the MPCC and its frontal organizations held a condolence meeting on Saturday at Congress Bhavan.
Party leaders recalled the many contributions of late Lyngdoh and collectively expressed their sense of deep grief over his demise.
As a mark of respect, two minutes silence was also observed.
The MPCC also extended its condolences to all the bereaved family members and prayed for the departed soul.
In a statement issued to the media, the MPCC said late Lyngdoh had a long innings in politics and had dedicated his life to social service.
“He had also served the government in various capacities as an officer and was very committed to his work. He has held important public offices all through his distinguished career. Late Lyngdoh had served the people and the state with grace and dignity. His impeccable integrity of character and selfless service for the cause of the State and the society will always be remembered,” the MPCC said.
“As a public representative, he was very close to the people and always responded to their needs with love and compassion,” the MPCC said.
According to MPCC, late Lyngdoh strengthened the party at all levels.
As then president of the MPCC, he had introduced many initiatives that were aimed at revitalizing and reinforcing the party ideology, the MPCC said.
