Karaikal: Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan on Monday offered worship at the Lord Saneeswara temple at Tirunallar near here.
He was accorded a ceremonial temple honours in the presence of Karaikal District Collector E Vallavan and temple Executive Officer S K Panneerselvam.
The Governor also performed some homams in the temples. Later, speaking to reporters, Shanmuganathan, a native of Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, said Tirunallar needed better transportation facilities as a large number of pilgrims were visiting the town from various parts of the country.
“It would be better if more number of trains are introduced to Karaikal,” he said.
Earlier, speaking at another function at Mayiladuthurai, he said rail connectivity to Tarangambadi, the heritage town in Nagapattinam District, should be restored.
In 1921, the then British Government introduced train service to Tarangambadi connecting it with Mayiladuthurai junction. Southern Railway stopped the train service in 1984 and during the early 1990s dismantled the metre gauge railway line. (PTI)
