Guwahati: The Assam government on Tuesday ordered an enquiry into a clash between BJP workers and Congress  workers in front of Congress head office, Rajiv Bhawan, in the heart of the city on Monday. Assam Chief minister and Congress veteran Tarun Gogoi while condemning the BJP for attempting to launch  an unprecedented attack on the state Congress headquarter, said he had ordered additional chief  secretary V Pyarelal to conduct an enquiry into the series of incidents leading to Monday’s clashes in  front og Rajiv Bhawan, find lapses and fix responsibility. The inquiry report will be submitted within 15 days.
He said, “I am not happy with the way Assam police acted. The incident happened right in the heart of the city.”Gogoi alleged that it was a planned attack by BJP workers on Rajiv Bhawan and was carried out at the instigation of two top leaders of the party.
He, however, refused to name any BJP leader and said the enquiry report will find out the truth.Gogoi termed the ‘attack’ on Rajiv Bhawan ‘an act of goondagiri’ by the BJP and said, “We have never seen such attack on a rival political party’s office in the history of the state.
The BJP is a party of goons and two of their top leaders are leading in this goondagiri.”Clashes had erupted between BJP workers and Congress supporters when the former were approaching Rajiv Bhawan while returning from a demonstration in front of former minister and Congress MLA Nilamani Sen Deka’s residence against a derogatory remark made by Deka against the PM and Union minister Smriti Irani.Meanwhile, the Congress and BJP traded charges on Tuesday blaming the other for the clash between workers of the two parties in front of Congress head office.
Assam Pradesh Congress president Anjan Dutta alleged that the ‘attack’ on Rajiv Bhawan was instigated by former Congress minister and current BJP leader Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma.
He claimed to be in possession video evidence of Dr Sharma instigating the BJP workers to ‘attack’ Rajiv Bhawan and said the Congress party would lodge an FIR against BJP leaders, including Dr Sharma. Dutta demanded arrest of the BJP leader involved in it. On the otherhand, the BJP today accused the ruling Congress of using the police machinery as its own tool against the BJP. At least four BJP state leaders were arrested in connection with yesterday’s incident.State BJP vice-president Santanu Bharali alleged that the police were harassing several other leaders over telephone and asking them to report at police station so that they could be arrested. He said the police on Tuesday conducted a search operation at the state BJP head office sans informing any senior party leaders.T
The BJP wprkers will sit on a token fast from 1000 hours to 1600 hours at all district headquarters on Wednesday against Monday’s incident.
