SHILLONG: A Police Officer turned out to be saviour for two American tourists who were celebrating New Year in Shillong.
American Tourists Olivia and Jennifer had travelled to Shillong from Gauhati Airport. When they checked into a city hotel they realized that they had left their GPS system in a white Sedan vehicle.
In this regard, they approached the Officer in charge of Laban Police Station, Inspector, BK Mishra and narrated their plight to him. Mishra immediately showed them pictures of the Sedan vehicle plying on the route and it was learnt later that the vehicle in question was a white Swift Dezire.
In his effort to help them, Mishra contacted taxi unions and highway police posts to enquire about the vehicle but even after two days there was no trace of the vehicle that contained the GPS system.
Not the one to sit idle, he contacted more drivers plying in the route on the third day and his efforts paid off when on the fourth day, he was informed that the driver found objects in his vehicle which turned out to be the GPS system of the tourists which was later handed over to them. The tourists thus left Shillong with pleasant memories of a hospitable place and probably an indelible New Year gift.
Earlier, in December 2015, the personnel of Sadar police station helped a German couple in tracking down a mobile phone which they had left in a taxi while travelling from Dawki to Shillong.
