SHILLONG: NPP has flayed the state government for the delay in clearing the name former Finance Minister Conrad Sangma as a nominated member of GHADC saying that Congress-led government is doing “this with a hidden agenda”.
It has been two months since November 3 when Conrad’s name was forwarded to the District Council Affairs department by the Executive Committee of GHADC for approval. Together with the name of Conrad, the GHADC had sent the names of two more MDCs for induction in EC, but in vain.
When contacted, NPP spokesperson and legislator James Sangma said that undue delay should be construed as political interference on the part of the government.
“The file is still pending with the government. We will pursue the matter with the government,” Sangma said.
Sources said that the Congresses wanted to go slow on the appointment of Conrad, who is seen as potential rival in politics by the Congress functionaries in Garo Hills.
Once the name of Conrad is cleared as nominated MDC, he will take over the leadership from the current CEM  Denang T Sangma.
It was on October 16 that the NPP led Garo Hills Progressive Alliance (GHPA) had approved the  name of Conrad to be appointed as the Chief Executive Member (CEM).
As the rule allowed only any elected member to be the CEM, Conrad was not appointed which paved the way for the three time MDC from Williamnagar Denang Sangma assuming the office of CEM on October 21.
