Bikers on ‘peace and unity mission’ arrive in Shillong

SHILLONG: The Haflong Highlanders, a team of 24 Royal Enfield Bullet enthusiasts, who are on a seven-day tour-de- hills of Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram reached Laitkor Garrison of Assam Rifles on Thursday.
The team, out on the ride as part of their ‘Brotherhood Ride for Peace & Unity’ programme, also called on Governor V. Shanmugananthan here on Friday.
With an aim to spread peace and unity, the Assam Rifles conducted the bike rally in collaboration with Highlanders Royal Enfield Bikers Club Halflong (HREBCH) and Dima Hasao Tourism (DHT).
The tour-de-hills has been co-sponsored by 22 Sector Assam Rifles which has been involved in promoting peace and unity between tribal and non-tribal people of Dima Hasao district.
While speaking to reporters, Major Deepak Saini, Assam Rifles, said that the bike rally started on January 6 and the bikers will tour Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram, covering over 1200 km.
During their tour, the bikers also met Lieutenant General Harminderjit Singh Sachdev, Director General Assam Rifles, who congratulated the Highlanders on their initiative.
