SHILLONG: Police have started sanitizing the vulnerable routes and areas through which the security personnel pass through in Garo Hills to prevent any untoward incidents as there are inputs with the police that the GNLA militants may resort to carrying out further explosions targetting security personnel.
“We are on high alert and the entire region is also under security scanner. We have started moving in different directions in parts of Garo Hills especially by sanitizing the vulnerable routes to check IEDs,” a senior police official said.
The official added that with the large scale surrenders, arrests and operations, the GNLA leadership is a frustrated lot coupled with people’s resistance to militants.
Following the Williamnagar blast, Police have also urged people to inform the police about abandoned articles and baggage.
“We are also carrying out random checking of market places and vehicles, and our men are on the move to carry out specific operations,” the official added.
The state government has rushed in senior police officials to Garo Hills to take stock of the situation. The state government has asked the people to share any information about the presence or movement of the militant cadres in their respective areas to enable the security forces to foil their nefarious attempts to repeat such acts of terror and violence against civilian population and disturb peace and security in the State.
