NONGPOH: Taking exception to the inordinate delay in commencement of construction work for the much hyped Umsning Bypass in Ri Bhoi district, the Ri Bhoi People’s Movement (RBPM) on Monday met Deputy Commissioner Pooja Pandey and voiced their concern over the plight of the daily commuters who have to negotiate the dilapidated NH 40 at Umsning.
The RBPM led by its president E.K. Kharnaior and secretary John M. Mawphniang sought clarification on the delay in commencement of the Bypass project work.
In reply, the deputy commissioner said the district administration has completed all the paper works and also acquired the necessary land and handed it over to the National Highway Authority of India, and the reason for the delay was known only to the NHAI.
Kharnaior later said the organisation will meet the NHAI project manager to seek clarification on the delay in the Bypass project.
He also urged the intervention of the State government for speedy implementation of the project.
