Police caution people on handling unclaimed objects

SHILLONG: In the aftermath of the Williamnagar blast the Special Superintendent of Police (SB-I) Meghalaya, Shillong has issued certain instructions and precautionary measures for the safety and security of the public at large and also to sensitize the general public on IED/bomb threats.
The police have instructed the general public not to go near any unattended or unclaimed articles or bags and suitcases, if found at public places like market places, vehicles, shops and bus stops. The public are to move away from such unattended and suspicious articles to a distance of at least 500 metres and take cover under or behind mounts and walls.
The police also instructed the public not to use mobile phones near the suspicious object and not to take picture of such objects. They should help to evacuate women, children and elderly people to a safe place away from any such suspicious object.
When any suspicious article is found, the public are requested to immediately inform the police station in their respective districts.
