SHILLONG: The State Government is now contemplating to move the Centre to seek fund for expansion of the New Shillong Township (NST) project.
Sources informed that there is no fresh land acquisition going on at the moment pending the amendment of the land acquisition Act in the Parliament and due to lack of fund.
Source also said that the land which was acquired earlier has already been allotted to various departments of the State Government and institutions like the IIM, Shillong and NIFT.
Now the department would work on the sewerage system  and   water facilities since the PHE has some fund for the   work.
Though the land acquisition for the project started way back in 1995, the infrastructures are coming up now but in some patches infrastructures are not coming up due to  litigations.
It is learnt that the State Government has so far acquired  more than 370 hectares of land for the project.
