Statehood Day celebrations

SHILLONG: UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh took strong exception to the Government’s alleged parochial attitude while celebrating Meghalaya Day.
The Government, according to Lyngdoh, did not bother to invite any of the regional parties to the celebrations.
“The regional parties were instrumental in achieving statehood. The regional party, All Party Hills Leaders Conference, was the architect of the Hill State. It is a matter of shame that the Government lacked the courtesy of inviting them,” Lyngdoh said adding that the Congress, at one point of time, was against the idea of creating a separate Hill State.
