SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer P. Naik has written to the Election Commission of India urging to speed up its observation on the dual post issue.
During the last hearing on January 13, Advocate General of Meghalaya, B.P. Todi, had sought adjournment on the case from the High Court of Meghalaya since the matter was under the examination of the Election Commission.
The High Court had also listed the matter to be heard after four weeks.
Earlier, the High Court in an order on December 15 last year, wanted inclusion of all the eight legislators, who were holding the posts of MDC, to be examined by the Election Commission.
The eight legislators include KHADC CEM P.N. Syiem, H.D.R. Lyngdoh, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, Stephanson Mukhim, Phlastingwell Pangniang, Brolding Nongsiej, Metbah Lyngdoh and Sanbor Shullai.
Except Syiem, the others had quit the posts of MDC following the Dual Post Bill which took effect from October 1 last.
Naik said that he had urged the Election Commission to send its report at the earliest after examining all the eight cases following the court order.
