In a letter submitted to the Governor, GHADC CEM Denang T Sangma said that in pursuance of Rule 6 (1) of its constitution, the district council has proposed the name of Conrad Sangma.
Rule 6 (1) of the Constitution of the Garo Hills District Council (Sixth Amendment) Act, 1977 which states “The District Council of the Garo Hills Autonomous District shall consist of thirty members of whom twenty-nine shall be elected on the basis of adult suffrage and the remaining one shall be nominated by the Governor on the advice of the District Council, and the allocation of seats therein shall be as shown in Appendix 1 to these Rules.”
The letter addressed to the Governor said that it was in pursuance of the proviso of the District Council that it has unanimously decided to propose and to advise the Governor “to nominate Conrad Sangma, a resident of Tura – Walbakgre, as member to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council”.
Earlier, a high-level delegation of Garo MDCs representing the NPP-led Garo Hills Progressive Alliance had called on Governor V.
