KHADC enforcement wing conducts eviction drive at Mawlonghat

SHILLONG: The enforcement wing of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Thursday conducted a drive against hawkers at Mawlonghat.
The drive which was carried out following an order by Executive Member in charge of trade was led by Poland Sohphoh.
Addressing media persons Sohphoh said that the KHADC had received complaints about congestion at Mawlonghat which created problems for passers-by.
“The parking spaces are occupied by the hawkers and this has created problem for people mainly from rural areas,” Sohphoh said.
“The congestion in the area is also being taken advantage of by the pickpockets,” he added.
It was also decided that enforcement police will be deployed in the concerned areas to prevent hawkers from occupying the space again.
