SHILLONG:  Three footballers from Royal Wahingdoh FC’s youth setup (U-15 squad) have been selected to train in Spain for 10 days under specialized youth coaches of Real Madrid and the Spanish Youth Federation.
The three U-15 boys—Kynsai Khongsit, Remark Kharmalki and Phrangki Buam—are among the 16 talented footballers chosen from across the country to take part in the camp and will be travelling to Spain on April 15.
The youngsters have been selected under the grassroots programme called Star Sports Young Heroes.
In order to widen the base of the Indian football pyramid by identifying young talent from country’s largest student direct contact programme from the very grassroots and provide guidance for the next step towards elite football, the one-of-its-kind ‘Young Heroes’, promoted by Star Sports, was nationally launched in August last year.
The tournament activation programme, which is being conducted by Highlife Management, reached out to as many as 6,500 young footballers.
