Crime graph on the rise in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: In what can be termed as alarming, as many as 3703 cases of cognizable crimes under various sections of the IPC were reported in Meghalaya in 2015.
Police statistics revealed that 134 murder cases and 94 rape cases were reported in the State last year.
In addition, 169 cases of kidnapping and abduction under Sections 363, 364, 364A and 366 of IPC were also reported in the State.
Theft cases also witnessed an upward trend with as many as 763 cases of theft under Section 379 to 380 IPC reported in 2015.
There were also 169 cases of cheating and 50 cases of forgery reported in Meghalaya.
The police statistics also reveals that there were 90 cases of assault on women with intent to outrage her modesty besides 20 cases of insult to the modesty of women
If one goes by the police statistics, extortion is also on the rise in Meghalaya with 124 cases reported in the State last year.
Besides, 144 cases of rash driving were also reported in the State in addition to 1164 cases which were reported in the State under other IPC crimes.
