Govt orders removal of hoardings

SHILLONG:    The State government has ordered for removal of   all the billboards/advertisements/posters put up along Shillong-Jowai road.
Informing this here on Tuesday, Executive Engineer  PWD (Roads) , Jowai Central Division,   M Marbaniang said that order has been issued as per the  directives issued by the Supreme Court  committee on road safety.  All the advertisements and posters between Shillong Civil Hospital to Mawblei will have to be removed within 30 days.
Action will be taken against   those who fail to respond to the notice.
The Road Safety Committee formed by the Supreme Court to check lax enforcement of road laws last year had issued 13 directives to all the states. They include removal of roadside advertisements and posters that obstruct the view of drivers or distract them and a ban on sale of liquor on National and State highways.
