SHILLONG: The Meghalaya People’s Front (MPF) has urged the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to convene a special session to discuss the January 13 ruling of the High Court of Meghalaya entrusting the State government to frame rules on the powers and functions of headmen.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker on Tuesday, MPF Secretary James Sangma said a meeting of the leaders of the UDP, NPP, GNC and KHNAM was held on January 28 to discuss the High Court order.
“This is a matter which is agitating the minds of the citizens of Meghalaya. It is therefore fitting that in pursuit of the resolutions adopted therein and in view of the fact that the Legislative Assembly is the most appropriate platform to discuss this matter, the members of the MPF request your good office to convene a special session to discuss this important issue,” the letter said.
