Businessman shot dead in Nagaland
Kohima: A businessman was shot dead in the commercial hub of Nagaland–Dimapur district, the police said on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Charlie Hangsing, who was shot on the head and chest from close range by three unidentified gunmen while returning from his shop late last night, they said. The motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained, the police said adding, no arrest has been made but, investigation was on to nab the culprits. (PTI)
Four Barn Owl fledglings rescued in Nagaland
Kohima: Four Barn Owl fledglings were found in Nikhekhu village under Niuland sub division of Dimapur district on January 30 and donated to Nagaland Zoological Park at Rangapahar, near Dimapur. In an official release here, officer-in-charge of the Nagaland zoological park Obed Bohovi Swu on Wednesday said the rare birds were rescued by the head Gaon Burah and president of Western Sumi Hoho, Y Isawoto Yepthomi before it donated to the zoo. He said, it was an encouraging to see the level of awareness for wildlife conservation. Further, the park management has conveyed their sincere appreciation for the noble gesture in saving “our” wildlife and urged everyone to continue to support the management, the statement said. (UNI)
Two arrested for smuggling 180 kgs of Ganja
Kohima: Personnel of District Intelligence Branch of the District Executive Force, Kohima today arrested two persons for smuggling 180 kgs of contraband ganja, the police said. The arrest and seizure was made while the police were checking a SUV at Pfuchama village area at around 1 AM, said Atu Zumvu, PRO, Kohima Police. The two accused persons have been identified as Pavei Makho and Winner J, from Tadubi under Senapati district of Manipur. In this connection a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 was registered for conducting further investigation at the Khuzama PS, the police said. (PTI)
Arunachal Guv holds meeting to streamline developmental funds
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prashad Rajkhowa has met senior officials to streamline and rationalize developmental funds of the state. In a meeting with senior officials on Tuesday, the governor reviewed the guiding principle and course of action for the 13th Finance Commission grants for forest related activities among others, a Raj Bhawan release said on Wednesday. He said that the State Infrastructure Development Fund (SIDF) projects would be reviewed and finalized by a committee under the chairmanship of Advisor G S Patnaik. “Funds would be distributed rationally as per population, backwardness and special needs of the area,” Rajkhowa said. The governor expressed surprise that the previous plan for SIDP fund distribution as per planning department had excluded Anjaw, Namsai, Changlang, Longding and Kra Daadi districts. The governor had said that the 13th Finance Commission which was already approved previously by the last High Level Monitoring Committee (HLMC) should be implemented and no arbitrary changes be made on the project priority list. The governor had reviewed several projects and instructed that funds should be equitably distributed to all Assembly constituencies, the release said. (PTI)
