SHILLONG: The South Asian Games buzz in the city grew louder with the arrival of several foreign contingents here on Wednesday.
The respective archery, football, table tennis, badminton and wushu teams of Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bangladesh arrived here on Wednesday. Bhutan teams, meanwhile, had reached Shillong on Tuesday.
While the archery and football events are scheduled to start from February 5, badminton and table tennis will kick off the next day. The wushu event will commence on February 7.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the city in view of the arrival of the athletes. According to official sources, round the clock security will be provided to athletes and other members of the arriving contingents.
The JN Sports Complex, meanwhile, has become a fortress with CISF men and State police personnel manning each and every corner of the area. This is the first time that a sports event of such magnitude is being held in the city and the excitement is apparent everywhere. (IANS)
