Six shops gutted in Mawkyrwat market fire

MAWKYRWAT:  As many as six shops were completely gutted while four others partially damaged in a major fire that broke out at Mawkyrwat market in South West Khasi Hills on Friday morning.
Police sources said that the incident took place at around 4:00 A.M.
Personnel from the Fire Service were rushed to the spot and subsequently, the fire was doused.
Source said that properties worth lakhs of rupees were estimated to have been destroyed by the inferno.
According to sources, the exact cause of fire could not be ascertained. However, the police suspect that the fire was ignited from a chula in one of the shops.
