CPM likely to win 75 villages of 587 in Tripura ADC

Agartala: CPI-M candidates in 727 seats of 75 village councils under Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC) are likely to win the election unopposed. According to State Election Commission, other parties, including tribal based IPFT and INPT, were not able to field candidates for the election slated on February 24. Tripura ADC is spread over two-third geography of the state, having 4,597 seats across 587 villages. The withdrawal of nomination is scheduled tomorrow, which will give a clear picture of the contesting candidates. (UNI)
Two held with heroin
Aizawl: Mizoram Police Special Narcotics Cell officers seized 66 gms of heroin in Aizawl on Friday evening. The Police said the contraband worth around Rs 2.25 lakh was seized from the possession of David Lalremruata (25) and Goldena (23), both residents of Zokhawthar village in Champhai district along the Myanmar border. 23 shops destroyed in fire
Itanagar: At least 23 shops were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire at Tezu market in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh. All goods and items in the shops were burnt in the mishap which occurred in the wee hour on Friday, a delayed official release said here on Saturday. Civil police, IRBN, fire tender, Army, BRTF, ITBP and civilians together extinguished the fire before it could spread to nearby market areas and shops. No casualty has been reported and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. (PTI)
