Tura: Tura police threw a security cordon on the main road leading from the police station to the market after the discovery of a canister with wires protruding out and abandoned outside a police quarter on Sunday morning.
The bomb squad was pressed into service to inspect the strange device which later turned out to be harmless.
Following the discovery of the device by a police officer leaving home for duty at around 9 AM, the bomb squad took over the scene and after placing it inside an explosion preventive carriage took it to the 2nd MLP battalion in Goeragre, 12 kms away, where a close examination revealed it to be a beverage canister sealed with black tape and wires to make an improvised music speaker that apparently failed to work compelling the owner to abandon it.
