SHILLONG: Amid talks of leadership change in UDP, senior party leader and former State Assembly Speaker Bindo M Lanong has said that  a section of party leaders as well as workers feels that “change is necessary in the party”.
The statement came from Lanong a day after UDP president Donkupar Roy left it to the party to decide his future.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Monday, Lanong  said that  he was ready to hold the post of the president  “if the party decides so”.
“I have been in the party since the beginning of my political career but I never fought for any post,” he said, adding that if party wants him to hold the post of president he will not say ‘no’.

The   former speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly who lost  2013  Assembly elections to  Ampareen Lyngdoh in Malki-Laitumkhrah constituency, indicated that he would contest the  2018  elections  from the same constituency.
