NEW DELHI: The meeting of the Chairpersons of the minority departments of the Congress for the entire North East will be held in Shillong on February 22.
With assembly polls round the corner in Assam Congress party is gearing its minority vote bank with calling meetings of its minority departments first at Shillong and then at Guwhati which will be attended by AICC leaders.
Sayeedulah Nongrum, National Coordinator, of the minority departments of North East said that after the first meeting in Shillong, another meeting will be held at Guwahati three days later.
Khurshid Ahmed Saiyed, chairman of the minority department of All India Congress Committee will be addressing the meetings .
Nongrum has also invited all the PCC Presidents of North East to attend the important meetings.
These meetings assume significance in view of the coming assembly polls in Assam where muslims will play a big role, party sources said. The party is also unnerved with growing clout of UDF led by perfume baron and M.P. Bardruddin Ajamal in the border state.
