Chorus for change of guard in UDP grows louder

SHILLONG: Ahead of the general council meeting of UDP, chorus for change of guard in the party  is gaining momentum with several top leaders openly questioning the leadership.
After Bindo Lanong, another working president of the party Paul Lyngdoh, who is an aspirant for the top post, has batted for change in the party leadership.
Speaking to    The Shillong Times on Tuesday, Lyngdoh said that leadership change will be in the interest of the party only.
The  general council meeting of the  party will be held on February 27.
Reacting to a query, he said that in a democratic party, the   leader is chosen by the will of the majority.
“Now, the situation is such that everyone can join the fray for the party president’s post,” Lyngdoh said.
When asked if the present situation in the party would lead to an internal feud, he said that in a democratic party everybody has the right to air his or her view.
KHADC by-poll candidates: Meanwhile, the party announced that the   names of the candidates for the KHADC Bye polls   will be finalised after the general council of the party .
This was stated by senior party leader Jemino Mawthoh on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, UDP – Sohiong Circle held a public meeting at Wahlang  on Tuesday , where Mawthoh  highlighted failures of the State government.
UDP General Secretary Allantry F Dkhar reminded the people of the divisive attitude of the government where addressing the traditional institutions issue on different footings.
Others who spoke at the meet were R A Lyngdoh, Braston Kharphuli, Bah Wankupar Syiemlieh and Fedrick Lyngkhoi.
