SHILLONG: The non deployment of additional paramilitary forces by the Central Government in Garo Hills is due to the State Government’s reluctance to pay the 10 per cent expenditure cost causing pending dues as alleged by the State BJP.
“The union minister informed that this was the main reason why the Centre has delayed sending the para-military forces to Meghalaya,” Shibun told reporters here.
He was sharing the outcome of the state party leadership meeting with the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, in New Delhi last month.
With the ongoing militant activities in Garo Hills region, the Government is seeking additional paramilitary forces where state BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh was aware of the indifferent attitude of the Government after a meeting with Union Home Minister of State, Kiren Rijiju discussing on the current situation in Garo Hills.
Lyngdoh said that the Central Government had accepted to bear the expenses of 90 per cent while the State Government will make up for the 10 per cent which it has delayed to fulfill.
Similarly, Edmund Sangma National Council member in-charge BJP, Mahila Morcha, added that the State should take the responsibility to come clear with the 10 per cent fulfillment.
