HC grants 3-week time to Centre

Poor healthcare facilities

SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya on Tuesday granted three weeks’ time to Union Health Secretary to file affidavit in connection with the case pertaining to poor healthcare facilities in the state.
Earlier, on February 2, the Acting Chief Justice S R Sen issued notices to the Union Health Secretary, the Chief Secretary, Health Secretary, Director of NEIGRIHMS, and Director of State Health Services asking them why proper order would not be passed against them for the sorry state of healthcare hospitals in Meghalaya.
During the hearing on Tuesday, Amicus Curiae  duo TT. Diengdoh and A Sinha were present in the court.
R. Debnath, Central Government Counsel appeared on behalf of the Centre  and sought time to file the counter affidavit and hence three weeks’ time was granted.
N.D. Chullai, senior Government Advocate appearing for the state government and others, has already filed their counter affidavits.
The matter has been listed on March 2 for counter affidavit to be filed by the Union Health Secretary.
