Indian archers make clean sweep with all 10 Gold
SHILLONG: A day after the Indian compound archers made a clean sweep grabbing all the five gold medals up for grabs, their recurve counterparts repeated the feat as the host nation ended with all 10 gold medals in its kitty at the 12th South Asian Games here on Tuesday. India also claimed silver medals in recurve men and women’s categories on Tuesday.
While Deepika Kumari clinched gold in the recurve women’s event beating fellow Indian Bombayla Devi Laishram, Tarundeep Rai defended his SAG title overcoming Gurcharan Besra in the men’s recurve event.
Earlier in the morning session, India women’s team comprising Deepika Kumari, Bombayla Devi and Laxmirani Majhi defeated the Sri Lankan trio of Dilhara Salgado, Anuradha Karunaratne and Suchini Ubeysiri to bag the women’s team gold.
The men’s team of Jayanta Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai and Gurucharan Besra beat Sri Lankan team comprising Nipuna Senevirathne, Indranath, Sajeev De Silva by 5-1 to add another yellow metal to the tally.
In the mixed recurve category, Indian pair of Tarundeep Rai and Deepika Kumari routed the Sri Lankan duo of Dilhara Salgado, Nipuna Senevirathne 6-0.
