SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Wednesday said the State government intends to evolve a mechanism which would regulate construction of buildings outside the municipal areas.
Speaking to reporters after his meeting with the traditional heads here, the chief minister said there is a need to regulate the construction of buildings in view of the instances of disasters which often strikes the neighbouring countries.
He said that the government will invite the stakeholders for discussions on the kinds of mechanisms required to ensure that building constructions are regulated and also selecting that agency that would be tasked to regulate building construction.
“We will examine the matter and invite the stakeholders to evolve a mechanism which will be acceptable to all,” he said, while asserting that steps will be taken to ensure that people face minimum difficulty while getting all clearance for construction.
He also said that a committee will be set up by including MeECL and PHE officials to see how much assistance is required by MUDA to fast track all the clearances sought by people for construction of buildings.
