SHILLONG: India ended its wushu campaign on a dominating note on Wednesday clinching as many as eight gold medals and a silver and two bronze medals at the 12th South Asian Games here on Wednesday. Having already claimed three gold, one silver and one bronze, India finished their wushu campaign with 11 gold medals, two silver and three bronze medals at the Rising Sports Complex in Laitkor. In the women’s competition (Sanshou), India’s wushuists made a clean sweep by grabbing gold in each category. The first gold medal for India was bagged by Yumnam Sanathoi Devi in the 52kg weight category. She defeated Jharna Gurung of Nepal. In the 60kg category, India’s Kesisham Arunpama Devi won a gold medal after defeating Juno Rai of Nepal. The third gold for the hosts came through Puja Kadian who defeated Bindu Pun Magar of Nepal in the women’s 70 kg category. In men’s Sanshou, India claimed three gold medals with Uchit Sharma (52kg), Ravi Panchal (56kg) and Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh (60kg) emerging winners in their respective weight categories. Meanwhile, M Gyandash Singh with 18.53 points edged out his Nepalese and Bangladeshi rivals in Taijiquan and Taijijian men’s section to open India’s gold rush on the concluding day of the competition. L Sanatombi Chanu topped Taijiquan and Taijijian women section with 18.62 points ahead of Nepal and Pakistan for a second gold.
