SHILLONG: Members of the KHNAM Youth Wing on Wednesday met Health Minister A.L. Hek and apprised him of the report of the water sample collected after their recent inspection of the water reservoir of the Shillong Municipal Board and the Public Health Engineering department (PHED) at Iewduh.
“The water samples were sent for testing to King Edward VII Memorial Pasteur Institute and Medical Research Institute. While the source of water from the PHE tank was tested to be chemically within satisfactory limits, the water sample itself was found to be suspicious and required boiling and filtration before consumption,” the KHNAM Youth Wing stated, while adding that the Pasteur Institute has asked for fresh samples.
Speaking to media persons, Thomas Passah, KHNAM youth wing president, said, “Our main concern is whether they have use bleaching powder to treat water.”
On the other hand, the water sample collected from the SMB reservoir and tested in the same centre passed the test and was declared safe for human consumption.
Hek assured them that the government will look into the matter seriously.
