TURA: Appreciating the GNLA’s willingness to come for negotiations and peace talks with the Government, the Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Dadenggre has appealed to the government to speed up steps to initiate the same at the earliest for the sake of peace in Garo Hills.
Citing the example of Nagaland and Manipur where the situation deteriorated although military tactics were applied with the intention to maintain peace, the union said that dialogue, discussion and persuasion was the need of the hour in order to bring back normalcy in the region.
“This is the right time and the government should respond to GNLA’s offer for talks by appointing an interlocutor at the earliest for long lasting peace in the region. Military tactics on the part of the government will not bring a solution to this problem as we have already seen it. It only adds fuel to the fire,” the GSU said.
Stating that peace was the only thing that the people of Garo Hills wanted at the moment, it also appealed to both the government and the GNLA to be sincere and abide by the terms and conditions set during the negotiations.
