SHILLONG: Meghalaya showcased honey, turmeric powder Meg tea among others under the banner, Meghalaya Basin Development Authority during the three-day event Destination Northeast 2016 which was launched on Friday in Delhi .
Among other products displayed at the Meghalaya pavilion are Meg Tea, Urlong Tea, cashew nut, black pepper, traditional medicines, handicrafts and hand loom products.
Apart from other government departments from the state, the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, which is also part of the event, highlighted various activities and missions of the IBDLP.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma along with other dignitaries visited the MBDA stall and took keen interest on the products that were displayed.
The three-day event focusing on the North East is being organised by the Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER) and Ministry of Culture. It was inaugurated by Union DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh at Pragati Maidan.
The event which showcased the inherent economic, social and cultural strength of the North East region at the national level saw participation of stakeholders and government departments from across the northeastern states.
The event also includes the theme-specific business summit of various sectors like tourism, agriculture, food processing, skill development & entrepreneurship, IT, handloom & handicrafts, livelihood, micro-finance and start ups so as to enable various Central Ministries to showcase their initiatives in North East.
Other highlights of the event are cuisine from the North East, folk music and dances, rock music of northeast, quiz competition, dance and singing competition.
The event will culminate on February 16.
