SHILLONG: In view of the Government’s alleged failure to tackle issues of social importance ranging from unemployment, education, customs, etc., Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM PN Syiem has called for the formation of a people’s platform where advocates, intellectuals, academicians, retired civil servants, politicians among others will discuss various issues and in the process be the architects of the state’s future.
“We are all aware of the Hill State Movement of the earlier years. Now it is time for a people’s reformation movement. This platform will deliberate on the failures of the government and work out solutions to the problems,” Syiem said while speaking to media persons here on Friday.
Reacting to a query on whether all the 60 MLAs have failed he said, “We have failed in all areas, be it in the economic front where the state has all the potential to tap mineral resources, or in terms of customary laws, which we have failed to upheld.”
Syiem also called for a change wherein the masses do not look at a political party but examine a candidate’s background before bestowing their faith on him.
