India finish behind Afghanistan in taekwondo

SHILLONG: India won as many as three gold medals on the last day, but finished second behind Afghanistan in taekwondo at the 12th South Asian Games at the NEIGRIHMS indoor sports hall today.
India’s Latika Bandari and Margerita Regi along with Navjeet Mann won gold in their respective categories as India concluded their campaign in taekwondo with five gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
In the men’s U-80kg, Navjeet beat Nepal’s Shaksham Karki to win gold.
Meanwhile, Latika defeated Nepal’s Neema Gurung in the women under-53kg final, while Margerita emerged victorious in the U-62 kg by beating Nepal’s Ayasha Shakya with a single blow in the additional time after bout was locked at 8-8 points at the end of the first three rounds.
Afghanistan, however, got the better of India with six gold, one silver and one bronze.
