Guwahati: Setting the party’s campaign on the roll in pol-bound Assam, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday fired a br8adside at the RSS and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asserted that the BJP would face a Bihar-like debacle in the forthcoming Assam polls.
Addressing three public rallies od arty workers and people at Gohpur, Bihpuri and Titabor in eastern Assam in the company of AICC leader C P Joshi, Assam chief minister TArun Gogoi and other senior party leaders, Rahul flayed Modi for being more focused on serving the interests of a handful on industrialist ignoring the plight of poor farmers and the down trodden.Rahul also fired a broadside at the RSS for trying to pose as the only patriot in the country and attacked the RSS of hatching design to create disruption in plural but harmonious social fabric in poll-bound Assam for narrow political gain.
“Today any youth contesting the ideals of the RSS is branded an anti-national. What is this RSS ? Does it have exclusive license to serve the country? Are they not the people who had pumped in three bullets in the chest of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation,” the Congress vice-president said. “The RSS says there should be a uniform society in India. Then what will happen to India’s diversity in language, culture, religion, ethnicity etc. The RSS is trying to deprive the people of their birth rights. What will independence mean to the people if the RSS has it way of uniform society ?” he asked.
“The people of Bihar had sent out the right message to the RSS and the BJP that tried to divide the society there to gain power after Assembly polls. The same fate is awaiting the BJP in Assam too where people are living in the spirit of brotherhood despite inherent diversities,” Rahul said while lauding chief minister Tarun Gogoi for establishing peace, harmony and leading Assam on path of development in the laast 15 years of Congress ruke.
“Modi doesn’t like to get photographed with poor farmers but basks in the company of industrialists. He doesn’t talk anymore about bringing down prices. He doesn’t talk about today , but likes to talks of plan for tomorrow and day after. What has happened to his promise of depositing Rs 15 lakh of recovered black money in bank account of the common man nd promise of employment to unemployed ?” Rahul asked.
He criticized the BJP-led NDA government in the Centre of doing away with special category state status of Assam that was granted by the previous UPA government and thereby reducing flow of Central fund to the backward state.
Addressing a mammoth women empowerment rally at Bihpuria Rahul said je had been overwhelmed by presence of such a huge gathering of women in the meeting and pointed out that Congress firmly believed in power of the women in expediting the pace of development in the country.
He recalled that it was a Congress party government in the Centre that had facilitated 33 per cent reservation for women in elected bodies in the coutry.
