Guwahati: Based on specific intelligence, Army troops launched a joint operation along with Assam Police on Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary between Tinsukia and Changlang, in which four hardcore terrorists were neutralised.
Three of the slain terrorists were from the Naga rebel group NSCN (K) and one from ULFA (Independent).
A defence source here informed that the security forces were tipped about movement of these terrorists coming to Dilli Pathar village under Bordumsa Police Station in Tinsukia district for carrying out extortion.
The Army troops along with Assam Police laid an ambush to apprehend the terrorists last night.
Four terrorists were killed in retaliatory fire by the joint team of Assam police and the Army in the early hours today after the ultras had opened fire at the sight of the ambush by the security forces.
One AK 56 assault rifle and two pistols along with a large quantity of ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists. The ULFA (I) and the NSCN (K) have bases in Myanmar across the border and are known to have good coordination between themselves.
Security sources claim that the NSCN-K led by S S Khaplang has provided logistics to the proscribed ULFA(I) led by fugitive Paresh Barua in the Myanmar terrain under its control.
