SHILLONG: With KHADC Chief Executive Member P.N. Syiem continuing to hold dual posts of MLA and MDC, the UDP on Thursday expressed regret that two of their MLAs cum MDCs had quit the post of MDC in haste following the passage of the Dual Post Bill.
Speaking to media persons on Thursday, UDP general secretary Allantry F Dkhar felt that the party MLAs cum MDCs – Brolding Nongsiej and Metbah Lyngdoh – should have consulted their people before resigning in haste.
Seven out of the eight legislators including H.D.R. Lyngdoh, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, Stephanson Mukhim, Phlastingwell Pangniang,  Brolding Nongsiej, Metbah Lyngdoh and Sanbor Shullai have resigned from the post of MDC leaving P.N. Syiem as the only representative holding on to dual posts.
Meanwhile, the UDP leader advocated the need for a united opposition to take on the government over various issues, saying that it is evident that there is a division within the opposition in Meghalaya.
Dkhar also slammed the State government and questioned the mines and minerals policy brought by the Government in 2012, saying that people would not have suffered if a proper mining policy had been implemented.
