SHILLONG: The ongoing fencing work in Meghalaya sector of Indo-Bangla border is likely to be completed by June this year.
Indicating this here on Saturday, the outgoing Inspector General of BSF, Meghalaya Frontier, Sudesh Kumar said that the fencing work was being monitored at the top level.
Reacting to a query regarding the gaps along the porous border, he said that presently BSF is manning those gaps which are not feasible to be plugged.
According to Kumar, the BSF headquarter is working on a technical solution on those gaps.
“Once the technology is finalized it will be implemented throughout the country,” he said.
When asked about the large scale smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh through Meghalaya, he informed that steps have been taken to tackle this menace.
On Garo Hills situation, Kumar predicted that militancy won’t last long in that region.
Kumar, who left for New Delhi on Saturday following his transfer, said that Meghalaya police have been able to bring situation under control through counter-insurgency operations in the last six months.
He also pointed out that Border Guard Bangladesh has been extending full cooperation to BSF in border management.
Kumar’s new assignment is IG ( ADM ) in BSF headquarters in New Delhi.
