Six injured as train coach derails in UP
Lucknow: At least six passengers were injured, two of them seriously, on Saturday when a general bogie of the Archana Express derailed at the Mughalsarai railway station in Uttar Pradesh, the Government Railway Police (GRP) said. The train was going from Patna to Jammu Tawi.  When the train reached Mughalsarai railway station and was chugging into platform No. 7, the general bogie derailed, leading to chaos. No deaths have been reported; the injured have been rushed to a nearby medical facility, said officials. Two of the injured, a woman and a youth, standing at the gate of the coach fell down and are in serious condition.  Senior officials of the Northern Railway (NR) reached the spot to oversee the rescue operations. The derailed bogie was put back on to the tracks with great difficulty. A probe has been ordered into the incident. (IANS)
Encounter between terrorists, security forces in south Kashmir
Srinagar: An encounter was on between militants and security forces in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, official sources said here on Saturday. Militants, reportedly travelling in a vehicle, attacked a security force party near EDI Pampore. Security forces retaliated. More than 100 employees of the EDI and civilians are said to be trapped inside the EDI building. Traffic on the highway has been diverted but large number of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway, they said. Further details are awaited, they said. (UNI)
Man electrocuted in UP
Shahjahanpur: A 26-year-old man was on Saturday  electrocuted to death when he came in contact with high tension power lines, police said. Chavinath was carrying a heap of fodder on his head when he came in touch with the live wire hanging in Bulaila Khera village under Tilhar police station area , police said, adding that he died on the spot. Infuriated over the incident, locals blocked traffic at Bareilly crossing on National Highway-24 ,demanding compensation for the deceased. The road was cleared when the electricity department officials gave a cheque of Rs 25,000 and promised to help the family get suitable compensation. (PTI)
Jammu and Kashmir legislator attacked
Jammu: Independent legislator Engineer Rashid was attacked by activists of right-wing Hindu groups in Rajouri district of Jammu region on Saturday. “With murderous intention, activists of Bajrang Dal and VHP attacked me in Bhamla (Sunderbani) area of Rajouri district today,” Rashid alleged. “They also broke the windshield of the vehicle in which I was travelling. They tried to sprinkle ink on my face but it fell on the damaged vehicle,” the legislator told reporters. Engineer Rashid stirred up a hornet’s nest last year when he hosted a beef party at the legislators’ hostel in Srinagar. (IANS)
Five Star Chicken restaurant chain to add 150 outlets
Chennai: Thailand-based multi-national $45 billion Charoen Pokphand (CP) group, is expanding its quick service restaurant (QSR) Five Star Chicken network in its core Indian markets while adding new items on the menu, a senior official said. The group will also start selling processed and packaged chicken meat – sausages, patties, and nuggets – to institutional segments like hotels and restaurants. The multi-product conglomerate CP group is an integrated player in the hatchery business, starting from feed mill, breeding, farming (live animals), processing and QSR generating revenue of around $13 billion. The group also has interests in telecom, retail and other sectors. “In 2016 we plan to increase our network adding around 150 outlets. The focus will be mainly on the southern markets where we will be consolidating our presence before reaching out to other regions,” said Rijoy Prabhakar, assistant vice president CPF (India) and head, Five Star Chicken business. He said the company is looking at small towns, amusement parks and malls for housing the QSR. Currently there are around 353 Five Star Chicken outlets spread across the southern states. (IANS)
15 new coal washeries to be operational by September 2017
New Delhi: The government said on Friday that 15 coal washeries will be made operational by September next year, thus doubling the current number which has a total capacity of 38 million tonnes per annum. This was conveyed to the parliamentary consultative committee attached to the coal ministry that met at Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati to review the status of implementation of coal washeries and measures being taken for improvement of quality of coal by state miner Coal India Ltd (CIL) and its subsidiaries, the coal ministry said in a statement here. “Members were informed that CIL (Coal India Ltd) has existing 15 washeries with capacity of 38 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and as part of future plan, CIL plans to build 15 new washeries for augmenting the demand of washed coal for energy needs and compliance of environmental regulations,” it said. The meeting, chaired by Power and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal, also included Coal Secretary Anil Swarup, chairmen and directors of CIL and NLC, as well as senior ministry officials. (IANS)
