TURA:  As part of promoting Ramie cultivation in the State, the Department of Agriculture has been organizing Training-cum-Exposure Trip for Ramie farmers to Sorbhog in Assam to familiarize them on the method of cultivating the fibre plant as well as harvesting and processing of the fibre.
As such, the department on Saturday morning flagged off the second batch of 52 farmers, including departmental officials from both West and South West Garo Hills for the trip to Sorbhog.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had formulated and launched a scheme for introducing Ramie cultivation in the State last year as part of the Government’s concept of Green Economy, not only to create livelihood opportunities for the farmers, but also to maintain ecological balance and control the adverse effects of global warming along with bamboo and agar plantation.
